i love my stumble button

just an average thursday afternoon, stumbling across the internets. found this giant list of mash ups all done by dj freddy, king of pants. i've only listened through a couple but they all sound decent at the least, better than most of the poor excuses for mash ups get'n crazy spins recently.

j-kwon v. hanson - mmmtipsy
outkast v. britney spears - bombs over toxic
micheal jackson v. justin timberlake - don't you love the closet
m.i.a. v. denice williams - let's hear it for sunshowers

walk in that record store, with my sticky hands...

simian mobile disco has been turtle head'n it out of the uk underground scene recently with a combination of the ever growing popularity of new rave and some really catchy vocal samples. the duo formed from the remains of their old electro band simian (yes as in justice vs. simian; your all time favorite drunken sing-along song) in 2005 and have really been getting a lot of play with the bangers they've released so far. their full length attack decay sustain release drops in the uk in june, you can hear a couple of tracks on their website. i'm pretty excited about this one.

also check out the hustler video as well (warning: it gets pretty spicy.)

i feel like an idiot

never checked my comments before today.

in other news... looking for a blog'n partner. that lrmd is always look'n so fresh. who wants to help? (not you, bryn.)

xiu xiu tour/remixes

xiu xiu is playing the bottom of the hill tonight and tomorrow night with fellow 5RC label mates; katie eastburn and sunset rubdown. the xiu xiu remix album remixed & covered dropped on the tenth, i finally got to giving it a listen through today; there are definitely a few decent tracks. oakland jazz duo good for cows instrumental version of sad pony guerrilla girl is the most outstanding track so far, sunset rubdown's cover of apistat commander is also pretty pop'n. i would say that devendra banhart's amazing rework of support our troops OH! is the most outstanding... but alas, i've had it for quite some time, it was originally part of a 7" split (the xiu xiu rework was the body breaks; also fuck'n amazing). the one minor problem i had with this album how the new version of ceremony (a new order cover performed by xiu xiu) is sub par in comparison to the original cover which was released on their chapel of the chimes ep in 2002. it's really similar to how i feel about the new version of no cars go on arcade fire's new album (seeing them june 1st... thnx rachel) taking one of my favorite older tracks and putting bells and whistles in places where they really didn't need to be.

sunset rubdown - apistat commander (xiu xiu cover)
xiu xiu - ceremony (new order cover) '02 version

p.s.
snatch dat new pase rock live cut from discobelle.

p.p.s.
sunday's earth day, do a brotha a fava.

wow... looks like the new ep S.U.C.K.S.

as more and more info drops about the ever so hyped new ep from the european power couple justice, the more and more it looks like just another sub par ed banger release. if you thought busy p chinced you out when he used his two year old chop suey track as a b-side to his new rainbow man ep. that and another thing, where do they get off calling these ep's? just because you repacked your old single phantom and threw in a radio edit, doesn't make it an ep. but i guess that what i should come to expect from ed banger releases.

justice - B.E.A.T

there were a lot less pretty women at the ed banger show i went to...

p.s.
pick up the new guns 'n bombs mixtape off shot callin'.

a couple of 'oldies-but-goodies'

tree wave... don't really know what to say about them. i love hearing good music for the first time live. discovering a great band just on a night out (or even better; on a road trip.)

tree wave - may banners

arcade fire played this cover when i saw them for the second time. it fuck'n rocks. who doesn't like the boss?

arcade fire - state trooper (springsteen cover)

this song along with devendra's r. kelly (who doesn't like kellz?) are two really good reasons to go pick up the 10 song vinyl only split they released last year. if you ever need to find an example of the perfect use of hand claps, look no further.

jana hunter - a bright-ass light

the first time i heard this band, they were playing on the sidewalk outside the hella show at the vet's hall a while back. in fact... i think that's the only time i've seen them play. whatever. i always really liked it.

bookends - whiskey & wine

crystal castles v. the pack - i'm shinin' like a crystal

top 3 aspects of spring break

1. the taste of... eneaglement.

2. they're so big in tokyo.

3. i've been meaning to mention dj atrak on here for a little while. his new dirty south dance mixtape just dropped under obey's (hey! i sling their shit and my crappy work! wanna shirt?) with their yearly 'hey we're still part of the scene, right guys?.. guys? you there?' sponsored dj mixtape (limited to 5000 copies). it just sucks they have good taste in dj's, this mixtape is the pants. i would go as far as to say this would appeal to the 'too good for dance" hipsters (like dro, it's fabriclive 33... but with like... more than 3 good tracks.) it's been on repeat for like two weeks, this guy is an amazing dj, rolls the dice on girl talk... like twice... with a little in his eye. a-trak (aka alain macklovitch out of montreal) has been in the game sense he was 16, his beat dare i say it... drop some serious flow. an lcd soundsytem/gwen stefani mash up, another take on the rick ross' hustlin' with simian moble disco's i'm a hustler baby and work countless other recent club bangers.

a-trak - time to get yummy
a-trak - call that girl margarita
